How Did I Research The Best Mosquito Repellents?

I wanted mosquito repellents that were not too expensive and could be applied to various surfaces.

I started out by listing recommendations on my experience with Odomos, All-out, Good knight, etc, reading online reviews for various products, mainly on different blogs, forums, and retail websites where people left comments or reviews about their experience with those products.

Scores of different factors were taken into consideration when selecting a product such as price, the efficacy of the product, availability, smoke, smell, and so on.

Mosquitoes are among the most irritating insects in the world. They occupy nearly 1/3rd of our world’s surface.

They drive us mad and cause intense annoyance when they bite us, but there is no need to worry since I have found some effective ways to help fight off mosquitoes from attacking anyone’s body.

Mosquitoes are attracted to humans by their carbon dioxide and body odor, commonly found in human breath, sweat, and body oil. They can breed in places where the humidity is high, including your couch, bed, and sauna.

Mosquitoes can be found worldwide, but they like warm and humid weather. Mosquitoes are a common problem in the summers. Most mosquito bites occur in the evenings as well as at night when mosquitoes are most active.

A mosquito repellent is essential for your health and comfort if you often have to go outside in the park or home. That’s why you must choose the right kind for your household.

Dabur Odomos

Dabur Odomos Naturals Non-Sticky Mosquito Repellent Cream is a great way to keep mosquitos from biting. It is easy to apply and comes in a travel-friendly size that will not take up too much room in your bag.

Mosquitoes used to find the coil and scent I use pretty familiar.

This cream is made with natural ingredients, so it is mild on the skin and also safe for kids. It also has a long-lasting shield, so you can spend more time outdoors enjoying the summer weather.

Now there is no need to ingest harmful liquid throughout the night. But, a word of caution, the product is priced on the higher side, for only 30ml.

All Out is quite effective in an average closed room.

My Verdict

I would suggest that you simply spray into each corner of the room where you need protection, then switch off the air conditioning or ceiling fan so it can get to work.

All Out All Night Mosquito and Fly Spray is a renowned brand that is perfect for anyone that’s been having trouble sleeping because mosquitoes keep them awake at night.

You don’t even need to remember to apply it or worry about forgetting about reapplication. The company claims it’ll give you 12 hours of protection from the second you spray until the following morning.

But I found that it is around 4-6 hours, which is not bad as it protects for several hours.

All Out All Night is a small, powerful bottle of insecticide that you can keep anywhere in your house at all times. It takes only four pushes. Keep some with your bedside table or in your travel luggage, so it’s there when you need it.

**How to choose the best mosquito repellent?** (Buying Guide)

Mosquito repellents are generally divided into two categories, natural and chemical. But choosing the right repellent can be tricky as some chemical-based products can still be harmful. Some natural versions can also have side effects.

For example, DEET is probably the most widely used insect repellent in many parts of the world. Still, it also affects one’s health, primarily if it is used for too long.

To avoid the side effects and to have the best mosquito repellent, you must consider a few factors before buying one. Here are a few crucial factors that will help you in choosing the best mosquito repellent in India.

Active Ingredient:

A good mosquito repellent must contain active ingredients proven to be effective against mosquitoes. Look for such information on the label of the products you choose to buy.

Be aware of the various kinds of chemicals used as active ingredients, too. Some chemical elements cause allergies and are harmful when used for a longer time.

The best mosquito repellents are those with DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus and IR3535 as active ingredients.

Type:

Different mosquito repellents work in different ways. The best mosquito repellent must be effective against mosquitoes.

The best repellents are those that eliminate mosquitoes as well as other insects from coming near to you. Even though effective in preventing mosquito bites, some products can irritate the skin or eyes when used for an extended period of time. So choose the right product depending on your need and lifestyle.

If you live in a tropical or subtropical region, then certain products will work best for you.

Efficacy:

The efficacy of the product is another crucial factor in choosing the best mosquito repellent. There are so many factors to be considered, like how much time will it take to eliminate mosquitoes from your locality.

Suppose you are looking for a mosquito repellent that is effective in a short time. In that case, one should choose the one with high concentrations of active ingredients.

However, if you need something that takes a longer time to act, low concentrations are best preferred.

The efficacy of the product is also dependent on the age of the person using it. For example, children below two years must use products that have a lower concentration of chemicals.

Product labels usually contain these details on their packaging, so do read them carefully.

Use:

Several products claim to be the best mosquito repellent, but you need to choose the right one.

The most recommended ones are safe for use around children, pets, outdoor activities, and the skin.

Active ingredients like DEET are not recommended for pregnant women and children below two years of age. But most products that are safe for use around the whole family come in liquid form and not in a spray.

Cost:

There is no shortage of mosquito repellents in the market. So the price of a mosquito repellent can vary depending on the quality, active ingredients, and quantity of a product.

I suggest those with fewer chemicals and those that do not contain harmful ingredients that may cause problems in your health.

Pros and Cons of Mosquito Repellant | What Are The Benefits Of Using A Mosquito Repellant?

Benefits

  • Mosquitoes that bite during the daytime are more attracted to the smell of the repellent than the repellent itself.
  • You can use any kind of clean water to dilute the repellent, and you don’t have to keep refilling the container.
  • Poisonous substance is not used in making this mosquito repellent.
  • It doesn’t leave a sticky feeling when you apply it.
  • It doesn’t leave any stain on your clothes or skin.
  • It doesn’t make your clothes smell like mosquito repellent.

Drawback

  • If you are too near to the trash, then trash might attract the mosquitoes towards itself rather than repellent itself.
  • If you are too near to the compost or earth, then it will attract mosquitoes towards the scent of the compost or soil rather than repellent itself.
  • Also, if you are too near to the infested place, then they might attack you if you wear your repellent on your clothes only.
  • You might feel sticky if you sweat too much while wearing your repellent on your clothes.
  • The smell of the repellent might linger on your clothes.
  • It might leave a burning feeling on your skin if you have sensitive skin.

Tips for applying Mosquito repellent

1. Apply mosquito repellent to any exposed areas of your skin.

2. Put on long-sleeved shirts, socks and trousers at dusk or before dusk. Mosquitoes are mainly active in the early evening; this is the best time to apply repellents containing DEET, particularly if you’re going out for an evening meal or a long walk in the garden.

3. Consider using a repellent that contains up to 35% of DEET (N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide) to protect yourself from mosquitoes for a longer time than those containing lower concentrations.

Higher doses should be used if you are going out in the evening or if you will be exposed to mosquitoes for extended periods (several hours).

4. Apply more repellent than usual on children because they tend to have thinner and more delicate skin than adults.

5. Do not apply repellent to your hands, face, or any other area where you wouldn’t want repellent to remain for a long time.

6. It’s best not to re-apply mosquito repellents more than once every 2 hours or so (depending on the concentration of the active ingredient) if you’ve been outdoors for a long time, as this can reduce the effectiveness of the product. Re-apply if you’ll be outdoors for extended periods after the first application.

7. Wash your hands after using repellents containing DEET, even if they are labelled as being “water-resistant” or “water-proof.

In conclusion

Hope you liked my list of the top mosquito repellent brands in India.
